Narrative

Wilhelm Peter Tisher (Teuscher). The last name probably changed by our family. Census records Iowa State listed Fisher 1870 Madison, Polk Co., Iowa. Wilhelm listed as P-Fisher, age 41, and Elizabeth 30. Father of August Shield Tisher. Some of the notes from an old long sheet for Wilhelm and Elizabeth are at Eliz.' name. Repeat some here at Wilhelm's name. Wilhelm Tisher had 6 brothers & 1 sister. The sister died in Switzerland. Another source said 5 brothers & 1 sister. Perhaps all had middle name Shield. Elsie Ruby (Elizabeth Ruby or Rubin) wife of Wilhelm. After Wilhelm and Elsie came to America, her brothers & mother came later. Her father died in Switzerland shortly before the family made the journey.

Wilhelm & Elsie were married in Bern, Switzerland, lived there 1 year, then came to America in 1862, settled in State of Ohio, then to Polk Co., Iowa. Census records for Iowa State list Fisher, 1870 Madison, Polk Co, Iowa. Wilhelm listed as P-Fisher age 41 and Elizabeth 30. Her family record lost in an old German bible. Elsie died at age 62.

Application for a passport for Peter Teuscher: " #5962--application 5 March 1863. Born Lutschenthal, Switzerland, Farmer, 32 years old. 5'5" brown hair, forehead small, eyebrows black, eyes grey, nose is middle-sized, mouth is also. Chin oval shaped, face oval shaped. Desires to settle in America. With him will travel his wife and son."

Fayetta heard in 1983 that Wilhelm had a suit on when he went out and the bull did not recognize him and killed him. Otherwise he never would have done it, it was said. Another side to the story was that Wilhelm was almost killed by a bull on the French/Swiss border. His chest was smashed in but the Dr. saved him. A part of his collar bone was torn out. Later came to US and died of typhoid fever. Little daughter Rosa died also, probably typhoid too. Elsie destitute, no money to bury them. A man from Letke made the caskets. She moved onto the extra place at Ellie's when she was widowed by Wilhelm. See notes at Elsie's name to follow her story.
